CLIMBING WALL FAQs
Indoor rope climbing is a form of rock climbing that takes place on artificial walls which requires ropes, harnesses, helmets and other equipment.
Bouldering is climbing without ropes and you only require climbing shoes.
You don’t need experience to come in and boulder at our centre, however if you haven’t roped climb before you will need to complete one of our courses.
We have a proficiency briefing for our rope climbing walls the first time you visit to assess you have the basic skills to climb in the centre with a harness. For bouldering you will be given an induction and then you are free to climb.
It depends on your own skill level and comfort. Generally speaking, you should be able to climb to the top of a route with ease before attempting more difficult climbs.
1 adult can supervise two novice climbers after completing the necessary waivers
Indoor climbing is considered safe when proper techniques and safety protocols are followed, and equipment is well-maintained.
We have a colour-coded system to indicate the difficulty level of routes on the chalkboard next to the hall for bouldering problems. In the roped climbing area each line has a grade noted at the bottom. We also use the app Griptonite which you will find helpful in identifying problems suitable for your own abilities.
Comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for a full range of motion is best for indoor bouldering. Avoid baggy or loose clothing that can get caught on holds or equipment and hoods should be removed or tucked in prior to climbing.. We also ask that you remove any jewellery, especially rings, before you climb.
There is no minimum age to climb but it’s recommended for around age 5+ depending on individual abilities. Any children under 18 require an adult (18+) to supervise them, and one adult can supervise up to two children. In the interest of safety, any child must have their supervising adult with them at all times while using the centre
